Oxford Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group

The first meeting was held on 30 September 2014. The meeting was organised by Ophelia English, ILD Nurse Specialist, assisted by her team.

Over 25 people attended the meeting which provided the opportunity for patients with IPF to meet others with the same or similar lung conditions.

The hospital’s ILD physiotherapist gave tips to help breathlessness and one of patients gave an excellent talk about his experience. The two charities which had supported the establishment of the group – Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis and the BLF both gave short presentations about their work in supporting IPF patients.

As it was IPF Week, a bubble blowing session also took place to raise awareness and support for the IPF community across the world. Those attending also had time over tea and delicious cakes to chat, make new friends.

All agreed that it had been very enjoyable and informative and looked forward to the next meeting.

Meetings will be held every other month and patients, relatives and friends are all welcome to attend for free.
