APF trustee awarded prestigious NIHR Professorship
Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis is delighted to congratulate Professor Gisli Jenkins, one of our trustees, on being awarded a prestigious National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) professorship for research on pulmonary fibrosis.
Already one of the leading researchers in the UK, Gisli has been awarded a £1.7 million, five-year project to identify biomarkers of pulmonary fibrosis that can predict the course of the disease and responses to therapy. This biomarker-guided strategy will enable a precision medicine approach to managing patients with pulmonary fibrosis.
He said: “I am so excited about receiving this award because it will enable a step change in translating our understanding of disease biology into better therapeutic strategies for patients with pulmonary fibrosis.”
Gisli was a founding trustee of APF, back in 2013 and chairs the selection panel for our Mike Bray Research Fellowship, which we will announce later this year.
