Guiness World Record Breaking attempt for Woody, Buzz and Jessie for Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis
Three of our fantastic fundraisers are test running their Toy Story costume at the Silverstone half-marathon on Sunday in their attempt to break a Guinness World Record at the London Marathon for fastest marathon for 3 people within one 3-person costume.
Laura Jones is raising money and awareness for Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis in memory of her mother in law Linda Mc Cormac and a dear friend of Andy and Heather who complete the racing trio.
Linda was a keen runner herself and ran the London marathon when she was 50. She was diagnosed with IPF in 2012 and lost her battle in February 2014 at the age of 62 – just sixteen months after being diagnosed.
Laura says “Pulmonary Fibrosis is still relatively unknown. A rare disease with no cure at this time, the need for research and a better understanding is enormous.”
“We have just had the first anniversary of Linda’s death and this year is the 30th anniversary of our running club, Witney Roadrunners so, with over 40 marathons between us we decided to do something extra special”
“Initially we just planned to run in costume for charity but then we thought why not do something that will set us apart from all the other costumes runners. Something that will really get us noticed and hopefully raise as much publicity and awareness for Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis as possible.”
“The Toy Story theme was Andy’s idea because it’s his favourite film. Andy and Heather are actually husband and wife so they bring real life chemistry to Woody and Jessie”
“We designed the Toybox from scratch ourselves. My husband built it from lightweight plumbing pipes and various friends and family members have contributed to its production and development along the way. It’s taken a few weeks to get the weight, size and aesthetics right but we are finally there and good to go!”
Laura, Andy and Heather have run over 40 marathons between them so they are well aware of the strength and endurance that it will take however none of them have ever ran in costume before so it will be a new experience.
Laura explains “The record we are going to is fastest marathon for 3 people within one 3-person costume. We need to cross the finish line in under 5 hours 45 minutes.”
“There is a list of rules and regulations set out by Guinness World Records. We will be monitored by Guinness officials on the day to ensure we are following these rules.”
Laura explains why they are running the Silverstone half marathon on Sunday: “One of the stipulations is that we must run the Silverstone half marathon in full costume so that both London Marathon and Guinness World Records can see we are serious contenders and that our costume is safe.”
Good luck to Laura, Andy and Heather – to infinity and beyond!
