A new Support Group is launched in Wessex
A new pulmonary fibrosis support group was launched last week in Wessex and Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis Chairman, Mike Bray, gave a presentation at the launch which was held at Eastleigh.
Mike talked about his experiences as a patient and about the charity aims and hopes for the future.
It was a very successful first meeting of a new patient support group which has been set up by the ILD specialist consultants, Dr Sophie Fletcher of Southampton General Hospital and Dr Katherine Spinks of Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis has been pleased to give support to this new group and welcomes the initiative of two hospitals working together.
Dr Fletcher, clinical lead for ILD at Southampton General Hospital, said: “We are making great progress both medically and scientifically in the treatment of ILD, but it is just as important for us that we have the right support in place for patients as well.
“The WILD patient support group will enable patients and their families and carers to come together on a regular basis, talk about their experiences, meet staff and hear about the latest developments in treatment and research.”
Over 50 people attended and benefited from receiving helpful information about research and the importance of exercise as well as having the opportunity to discuss the issues they face and how they would like the group to go forward.
